Spoke 3

Isaiah 25 chain Lamentations

O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth. For thou hast made of a city an heap; of a defenced city a ruin: a palace of strangers to be no city; it shall never be built.

Isaiah 25.1

The divine integration of Isaiah 25 with the Book of Lamentations is astounding to behold. The description is exact - impossible to miss. Consider these words from Lamentations 1.1 which describe the fall of Jerusalem:

How doth the city sit solitary, that was full of people! how is she become as a widow! she that was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, how is she become tributary! She weepeth sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks: among all her lovers she hath none to comfort her: all her friends have dealt treacherously with her, they are become her enemies. Judah is gone into captivity because of affliction, and because of great servitude: she dwelleth among the heathen, she findeth no rest: all her persecutors overtook her between the straits.

Themes found in Lamentations and Isaiah 25 interlock with many elements of Spoke 3. In particular, we find these words in the last two verses of Isaiah 25 (vs. 11.b-12):

and he shall bring down their pride together with the spoils of their hands. And the fortress of the high fort of thy walls shall he bring down, lay low, and bring to the ground, even to the dust.

The word translated as "pride" is the Gimel KeyWord (Gavah), which is part of the nexus of Gimel Keywords such as (Gadol, Majesty) and (Gay, Pride) that relate to lifting up, swelling, and rising. Note also that this verse has a strong thematic link with the last verse of Isaiah 3 (vs. 25-26):

Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war. And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.

Thus we have a triple thematic link between Isaiah 3, Isaiah 25, and Lamentations:

These thematic links are further discussed in the article on Isaiah 3.
