I am aware of a "subtle" difference between the Abrahamic family of religions, and the other world religions. Broadly speaking, the religions of the world fall into these two groups -
A. Revelation: God reaching out to Man
Judaism
Zoroastrianism
Christianity
Islam
B. Man reaching out to the Transcendent/God
Buddhism
Hinduism
Jainism
Taoism
Confucianism
The revelatory religions possess some striking characteristics –
Monotheism
Prophecy
Revelation
God enters history – becomes objective
We might add that the revelatory religions -
originate in the Fertile Cresent area – the Land
were mainly given to the descendants of Abraham.
On contemplating this, I am quite surprised at how the Abrahamic religions "stand out" as special in this way.
Does anyone have any thoughts about this?
