We KNOW from Revelation 2:12-17 that Satan’s Seat was located at Pergamon. The Altar of Pergamon (Location of Satan’s Seat) was discovered in an amazingly preserved condition by a German Archaeologist. In 1902 German Kaiser Wilhelm II brought the entire structure of the Altar of Pergamon, Satan’s Seat, and had it set up in Berlin Germany. (Pictured Above) Wilhelm II claimed that to be the highest achievement of his reign. Satan’s Seat, not a copy, but the actual original is NOW in the European Union in the Pergamon Museum in Berlin Germany.
German Archaeologists also found in an amazingly well preserved condition the Ishtar Gates of Babylon. (Pictured Below). In 1913 Germany began bringing the actual gates of Babylon to also finally be set up in the Pergamon Museum in Berlin Germany. It did not take long for World War One to begin. By 1930 the entire Ishtar Gateway as well as the processional had been brought to Germany and erected in Berlin. The Skull & Bones member, in Germany known as the Thule Society member, Adolph Hitler, celebrated the erection of the Gates of Babylon and ESPECIALLY the Altar of SATAN’S SEAT. World war two resulted in the death of 55 Million, including 6 Million innocent Jews which Hitler sought to purge from Europe. Russia captured the Pergamon Altar or Satan’s Seat but in 1958 returned the Pergamon Altar back to Germany where it is now located in the European Union in Berlin, Germany...

The quote didn't give any evidence that the particular artifact called the "Altar of Pergamos" was also known as "Satan's Seat." All it did was note that the altar came from Pergamos. But that by itself proves nothing. Everything from Pergamos is from Pergamos, so how do we know that this altar was the "Satan's seat" that is mentioned in Revelation? Did someone just make up that connection, or is there some real evidence?
Thanks!
Richard

Good point. I'm not sure. The deity worshiped there I believe was Aescalepius. Does anyone have any insight on this subject?

Pergamos means perverted marriage.
Pergamum (http://latter-rain.com/escha/pergam.htm) or Pergamos was the capital city of the province of Asia mentioned in Revelation as one of the seven churches of Asia. It was a celebrated city of Mysia in the Caicus valley, 15 miles from the Aegean Sea about 60 miles north of Smyrna. The river Selinus flowed through it and the river Caicus ran just south of it. Founded by Philelaerus, the lieutenant of King Lysimachus during his wars with Seleucus, it is now modern Berghama.
Pergamum was the famous site of the temple to Aesculapius, the Greek God of healing supposed to be the founder of medical science and immortalized in the sky as the constellation Ophiuchus. The city became the seat of Babylonian sun worship, a noble center of idolatry and demon controlled religions with splendid temples to Nature. People from all over the Roman empire came to seek healing in this pagan temple and the shrine area was inhabited by thousands of harmless snakes. On the hills of Acropolis stood resplendent buildings, statuary, palaces and the great library as well as the temples and an altar of "Zeus the Savior." Medicine and science was worshipped here and the symbol of their worship was the serpent. The snake was carried down into our own day with a staff entwined with serpents called the caduceus, still using the snake as a symbol for the medical arts; Aesculapius is depicted holding the caduceus in his hand.
This is most probably the reason why Pergamos is considered the throne of Satan:
Pergamum became the chief town of the new province of Asia, and the site of the first temple of the Caesar cult, dedicated to the goddess Roma and the emperor Augustus in 29 BC. Pergamum, since 29 BC, had been active in the promotion of the imperial religion and became the provincial center of the Roman state religion. With this emphasis it was but natural that the Christians of Pergamum should undergo persecution for refusing to worship the emperor. Elder Pliny judged it the most brilliant city in Asia. There still exist sculptures representing the artistic achievement of Pergamum in western Asia-Minor.

I think the term "Seat of Satan" had a more pragmatic and simple meaning to the first Century Christians. The seat was not a physical thing like so may suppose, but rather refers to the seat of power for the ruling authority of Rome. The Procouncil had the "Ius Gladii" the right of the sword - he could have anyone executed he wished - but generally they did not abuse this power. But in the case of the Christians in 93AD they were following the dictates of the Emperor.
Pergamum was the Seat of power (Satan) of the Roman Proconsul of Asia. It was to him that all of the Christians were sent for final judgment for refusing to worship the statue of the Emperor. So from every city in Asia streamed Christians who were taken in chains to go before him to be judged. If they didn't recant - they were sent from Pergamum to Ephesus, which was a seaport city - to be dispatched by ship to points West for punishment in the arenas of Rome. The road from Pergamum to Ephesus was called, "The Martyr's Way."
The Church was under intense persecution in the days of the Revelation. The horror began again after Nero under Domitian in 93AD when he started killing Christians.
Thanks for the insight Codger!
