View Full Version : Micah's Connection to Revelation 11

Recently I was re-studying Revelation along with the great commentary by G.K. Beale (NIGTC) and I found this paragraph in his discussion on Revelation 11. I believe that reading the books on the spokes that correspond to each chapter of Revelation will produce much light. Of course, only those who know about the Bible Wheel know this ....:cool: I pray the Spirit will lead more and more noted theologians and scholars to find the Bible Wheel.
Found on page 606:
"The pattern of Revelation 11:9-13 is found in striking fashion in Micah 7:8-17; (1) an enemy "rejoices" over Israel's defeat; (2) Israel's deliverance and restoration from captivity are portrayed as "rising" and likened to "the exodus out of Egypt"; (3) the enemies "see" the deliverance, "lay their hands on their mouth and (4) are shamed by it; (5) then their "cities are leveled and parted" in judgement; (6) the last response of the enemies is that they become "amazed" and "afraid" of God. It is clear that Micah 7 stands in the background of Revelation 11 because of the striking parallels and the overt association with the exodus, which already has been echoed throughout Revelation 11. This backgound supports the conclusion that the enemies "fear" is not true conversion, since the judgment in Micah is all-encompassing and the "fear" there is the terror experienced by those undergoing severe judgment.
Furthermore, the context of judgment beginning at Revelation 8:6 upthrough 11:12 together with the OT background favors an identification of the survivors in 11:13 as unbelievers suffering judgment. That vv.11-12 emphasize God's vindication of the whole church at the end of the age implies that those not vindicated in vv.11-13 are not among God's people. In addition, the purpose of the prophets' witness in 11:3-6 is apparently not to induce repentance but to "torment" (so 11:10). They are God's agents executing his beginning judgment on recalcitrant humanity (see on 11:5-6,10).
There has long been disagreement on whether those who gave glory in God after the 2 witnesses are raised symbolize repentant Jews. I think the connection to Micah shows that the glory to God is not birthed by repentance but by concession.
Btw, 1Kgs is clearly connected to Revelation 11 in its emphasis on the ministry of Elijah. A deep study of each chapter of Revelation with the corresponding books on each spoke needs to be done by those not already predisposed and locked into a system of interpretation....imho.

Micah 7 (NKJV)
Sorrow for Israel’s Sins
1 Woe is me!
For I am like those who gather summer fruits,
Like those who glean vintage grapes;
There is no cluster to eat
Of the first-ripe fruit which my soul desires.
2 The faithful man has perished from the earth,
And there is no one upright among men.
They all lie in wait for blood;
Every man hunts his brother with a net.
3 That they may successfully do evil with both hands—
The prince asks for gifts,
The judge seeks a bribe,
And the great man utters his evil desire;
So they scheme together.
4 The best of them is like a brier;
The most upright is sharper than a thorn hedge;
The day of your watchman and your punishment comes;
Now shall be their perplexity.
5 Do not trust in a friend;
Do not put your confidence in a companion;
Guard the doors of your mouth
From her who lies in your bosom.
6 For son dishonors father,
Daughter rises against her mother,
Daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
A man’s enemies are the men of his own household.
7 Therefore I will look to the LORD;
I will wait for the God of my salvation;
My God will hear me.
Israel’s Confession and Comfort
8 Do not rejoice over me, my enemy;
When I fall, I will arise;
When I sit in darkness,
The LORD will be a light to me.
9 I will bear the indignation of the LORD,
Because I have sinned against Him,
Until He pleads my case
And executes justice for me.
He will bring me forth to the light;
I will see His righteousness.
10 Then she who is my enemy will see,
And shame will cover her who said to me,
' Where is the LORD your God?'
My eyes will see her;
Now she will be trampled down
Like mud in the streets.
11 In the day when your walls are to be built,
In that day the decree shall go far and wide.[a]
12 In that day they shall come to you
From Assyria and the fortified cities,[c]
From the fortress[d] to the River,[e]
From sea to sea,
And mountain to mountain.
13 Yet the land shall be desolate
Because of those who dwell in it,
And for the fruit of their deeds.
[B]God Will Forgive Israel
14 Shepherd Your people with Your staff,
The flock of Your heritage,
Who dwell solitarily in a woodland,
In the midst of Carmel;
Let them feed in Bashan and Gilead,
As in days of old.
15 ' As in the days when you came out of the land of Egypt,
I will show them[f] wonders.'
16 The nations shall see and be ashamed of all their might;
They shall put their hand over their mouth;
Their ears shall be deaf.
17 They shall lick the dust like a serpent;
They shall crawl from their holes like snakes of the earth.
They shall be afraid of the LORD our God,
And shall fear because of You.
18 Who is a God like You,
Pardoning iniquity
And passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage?
He does not retain His anger forever,
Because He delights in mercy.
19 He will again have compassion on us,
And will subdue our iniquities.
You will cast all our[g] sins
Into the depths of the sea.
20 You will give truth to Jacob
And mercy to Abraham,
Which You have sworn to our fathers
From days of old.
Footnotes:
Micah 7:11 Or the boundary shall be extended
Micah 7:12 Literally he, collective of the captives
Micah 7:12 Hebrew arey mazor, possibly cities of Egypt
Micah 7:12 Hebrew mazor, possibly Egypt
Micah 7:12 That is, the Euphrates
Micah 7:15 Literally him, collective for the captives
Micah 7:19 Literally their
(As an aside, notice the opposite what Elijah would do in verses 5,6:
"6 For son dishonors father,
Daughter rises against her mother,
Daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
A man’s enemies are the men of his own household.
7 Therefore I will look to the LORD;
I will wait for the God of my salvation;
My God will hear me."
Elijah is to turn the heart of the fathers to the sons and mothers to daughters. Jesus used the same passage to show that He came to bring division even among family members.)

Yes, the Elijah connection is very strong. It also is seen in the Inner Cycle of Matthew, where Elijah first appears by name in Matthew 11 (http://www.biblewheel.com/InnerWheels/Matthew/Mat11.asp).
There also is a strong correlation between Solomon's Temple in 1 Kings and the appearance of the Temple of God at the end of Revelation 11 (http://www.biblewheel.com/InnerWheels/Revelation/Rev11.asp).

Thank you for such a great quote, Brother Bob! Kaph is the sign of similarity - the story in Revelation 11 is similar to that in Micah (just like Ahab and Naboth, a story told twice (http://www.biblewheel.com/wheel/spokes/Kaph_Ahab.asp)).
Victor
P.S: Elijah (Book 11) is also linked to Romans 11 (http://www.biblewheel.com/InnerWheels/Romans/Rom11.asp)!

Thanks Victor and gilgal. The comparison to Romans is enticing.
Another help to my study of Revelation is holding it up to the Gospel of John. There is a move through the Gospel of John in the setting of the sanctuary. There is a similar move through Revelation as well as the feasts of Israel. Off topic on this thread but interesting to add here.

I think many surprises pop up! I instantly recall that Hand appears in Romans only in Chapter 10, and in Revelation, Hand is maximized in Chapter 10!!

I feel so happy that I'm not the only one who sees that! I could write a whole article on it! It's deep!

Yep! That's one of the links. See Inner Wheels > Romans 10 (http://www.biblewheel.com/InnerWheels/Romans/Rom10.asp). And in John 10 (http://www.biblewheel.com/InnerWheels/John/John10.asp), we have Jesus speaking of His Father's Hand, just like He spoke of His Fathers House (Bet) in John 2 (http://www.biblewheel.com/InnerWheels/John/John02.asp).

Here are the two texts, Romans and Revelation 13:
Looking for power sword
Romans 13
1Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
2Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
3For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
4For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
5Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.
6For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
7Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
8Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
9For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
10Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
11And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
12The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
13Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
14But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
Looking for power sword
Revelation 13
1And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
2And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
3And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.
4And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
5And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.
6And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
7And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
8And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
9If any man have an ear, let him hear.
10He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.
11And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
12And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
13And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
14And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
15And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
16And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Romans 13 authority's God-given
Revelation 13 the beast's authority comes from the dragon!
Yes, gilgal. (Sorry, I have a hard time using your search engine) In fact, even before knowing the Wheel I could spot a puzzling link between Romans 13 and the beast.
The thing is: the most traditional interpretation of the beast is the Roman authority - more specifically, Nero Caesar. (Even if we don't agree with this identification, a comparison with Daniel 7 shows that it's not wrong to identify the beast with political authority. Either way, both Rom and Rev speak of political powers.) We then have a chapter saying that Ceasar's power (kingdom and authority) come from God and another one saying that it comes from Satan!
Unfortunately I don't have the time for a good review of this question, but the central idea orbits around the meaning of Mem, the Thirteenth Letter, and goes right into the discussion of the Problem of Evil.
Who (Mem KeyWord Mi) is the source (symbolic meaning of Mem) of Caesar's authority? Does it come from (Mem prefix) God or does it come from (Mem prefix) Satan?

WHat about the word "terror" in Romans 13? That government is supposed to put an end to terrorists. But these days ( related to Revelation 13 ) the government has funded terrorist groups through wallstreet and the central banks. Can you believe US had a Nazi Parti? And the Bushes are partners with the Bin Ladens? CIA brought about the Taliban to power. The Israeli Mossad created the Hamas.

The 11th letter is caf. This letter as a prefix to any word forms "like unto". The 11th prophet is Micah and within his writing he makes known the purpose of his name and calling:
Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.
Micah 7.18
Romans 11 and Revelation 11
The strongest links must be between the 11th book, 1 Kings and the 11th chapters of Romans and Revelation.
(It's strange that even Jerusalem like Elijah is not mentioned in this chapter but says "where their Lord was crucified").

1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
2 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel saying,
3 Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.
4 But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.
5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

Revelation 11
4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.

9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.
10 And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.
...
13 And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.

18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
Jerusalem is considered as a green olive tree (green olive tree like Romans 11? hmmm...):
Jeremiah 11:16
The LORD called thy name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.
Jeremiah 11:19
But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.
Jeremiah 11:23
And there shall be no remnant of them: for I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.
Look at the 11th book ( 1 kings ) and Romans 11:
I have + seven thousand + have not bowed + Baal
1 Kings 19:18
Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.
Romans 11:4
But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.

An interesting combination are the words build + scatter. They are two opposites. The reason one builds a house is to dwell there. When they did not dwell somewhere permanently. The bible mentions they dwelt in tents. But Gods power is manifested when he scatters the people who don't honor him. There’s no use of crying for solidarity if you don’t honor the LORD!!!
Genesis 11:4
And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
Genesis 11:8
So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
The 11th book starts with Israel building the temple:
1 Kings 2:36
And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Build thee an house in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and go not forth thence any whither.
And ends with God scattering Israel:
1 Kings 22:17
And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills, as sheep that have not a shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master: let them return every man to his house in peace.
The names Omri and Ahab appear together in only two books:
1 Kings 16:28 ( Book 11 of 1st cycle ) So Omri slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria: and Ahab his son reigned in his stead.
1 Kings 16:29 And in the thirty and eighth year of Asa king of Judah began Ahab the son of Omri to reign over Israel: and Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty and two years.
1 Kings 16:30 And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD above all that were before him.
Micah 6:16 ( Book 11 of 2nd cycle, of the prophets ) For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels; that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof an hissing: therefore ye shall bear the reproach of my people.
