HI Everyone
Im new to this forum so forgive me if this is in the wrong place

i believe that the dimensions of the Holy of Holies in the original temple was 10 cubits x 10 cubits x 10 cubits

When i read Exodus i can only see that the east and west sides are first given 6 boards (6 x 1.5 = 9 cubits), which is less than 10 cubits, and then 2 more boards are added (8 x 1.5 = 12 cubits) which is more than 10 cubits.

I had a look at this link for more info but it only confused me more
http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/view.jsp?artid=3&letter=T

can anyone tell me how the 10x10x10 is arrived at.

I believe that the number has to be deduced.

maybe the thickness of the panels is taken into account?

Hi ozman1,

Welcome to our forum!

:welcome:

I don't recall ever hearing that the dimension were 10 x 10 x 10. 1 Kings 6:20 says it was 20 x 20 x 20:

1 Kings 6:20 And the oracle in the forepart was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the altar which was of cedar.

The Jewish Encyclopedia (http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/articles/7830-holy-of-holies) says, "The cell was cubelike in shape, being 10 ells high, 10 ells long, and 10 ells broad." This was for the HoH in the *tabernacle*. The Encyclopedia goes on to say, "The section farthest from the entrance, designated also as the 'debir' (the 'oracle' 'the most holy place,' I Kings vi. 5, R. V. margin), was 20 cubits high and presented the shape of a cube." This was for the HoH in the *temple*.

The Encyclopedia is right, of course, seeing as how these same dimensions are given in Ex. 26:15-16 & 2 Chr. 3:8 (for the tabernacle) and 1 Kings 6:20 (for the temple).
