I have an relative working on a long-term project of re-interpreting the stratigraphy of Samaria. At this site the earliest Iron Age pottery, which is associated with the construction phase of the palace complex of the kings of Israel, which was built around 880 BC, is an assemblage which is classified as 'Iron Age II A' by archaeologists. Traditionally this ceramic assemblage, and all the other artefacts and architecture which goes with the pottery, is dated to around 950 BC, and assigned to the reign of King Solomon of Judah. But that is not possible. And when you redate all of the Solomonic material to Omri and Ahab, a century later, there isn't anything left to belong to the kingdom of Solomon. Archaeologists Finkelstein and Crowfoot came to the same conclusions, but I thought I would contribute this info since it is fresh data from a good source at the dig.
