The names fit in the context.
Jeremiah 20:1 Now Pashur [ פשחור freedom or prosperity everywhere ] the son of Immer [ אִמֵּר he hath said or word or promise ] the priest, who [was] also chief governor in the house of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah [ ירמיה whom Jehovah has appointed ] prophesied these things.
Pashur was a priest and a false prophet. His name means freedom or prosperity everywhere which fits in his role. And he was the son of Immer meaning he hath said or word or promise. So the false prophet's promise of prosperity everywhere will be changed to Magormissabib terror on every side.
Jeremiah 20:3 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him, The LORD hath not called thy name Pashur, but Magormissabib מָגֹור מִסָּבִֽיב terror on every side.
Jeremiah 20:4 For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will make thee a terror מגור fear, terror to thyself, and to all thy friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold : and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.
Jeremiah 20:6 And thou, Pashur, and all that dwell in thine house shall go into captivity: and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and shalt be buried there, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied lies.
This prophesy is applicable to not only the false prophet but Judah as a whole:
Jeremiah 6:25 Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy [and] fear [is] on every side [I]מָגֹור מִסָּבִֽיב.
Come to think of it it's the same today where we are promised great things such as peace and prosperity but the end result is terror on every side.
