Why the five loaves and two fish is there any important to this that we can learn from? Let me first lay this out:

Rev.19:7,8
His wife hath made herself ready, and to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of the saints

It's as if John is describing the harvest of grain which would be the Barley for they are called the "overcomers". For the barley is the first season grain crop that would have "overcame" the winter season. These that John describes here have overcame and seen as having fine linen which would be as those of priest and clean and white.

Now the white robes would be referring again to the harvest season which would be to the Flax.

Exodus 9:31 And the flax and the barley was smitten: for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was bolled.

Which would be ready to harvest at the same time of the Barley. Linen is made naturally. It is made by the fibres of flax plants. These fibres have natural shine, therefore, when the fabric is weaved and polished, the shine stays with the fabric.(white).

Rev.3:4-5
Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.
He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

These that have overcame the same will be clothed in white robes for she had maded herself ready, the Bride of Christ.

But here's what I want to focus the discussion on is how Jesus used the five loaves and two fish to show something about the day of resurrection. Jesus told his disciples to gather up the remaining peices of "barley" loaves and fish. Was this so that they may have food for the remaining days ahead? It may well be, but then again Jesus feed the 4000 only days later. Which the disicples only had seven loaves and fishes. (Matthew 14:13-21 & Matthew 15:32-39).

So why instruct them to gather up the fragments? I think Jesus tells us why!

John 6:39-40
And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day

Jesus is showing in this simple way of barley loaves that no one will be left in the grave, but will be raised to new life. Nice........ :thumb:

Pointing out numbers may be something of significance which I'm not sure myself. But I've noticed that Elisha had done a similar miracle therefore Elisha was a type of Christ. See 2 Kings 2-5 which includes healing the leper, feeding a multitude, cursing those who disappointed him (Jesus cursed the fig tree), raising the dead...

Thanks, I was about to ask what you made of the numbers, but I see CWH maded mention to 7. What then would the latter feeding of the multitudes with 7 loaves and some fish represent? The same possibly? but I do see the important of the fragments that where to be taken up as 7 and another 12.

Wow, gilgal that nice. I never thought or saw it laid out like that. :thumb:

What amazes me is that Elisha asked from his master or teacher Elijah a double portion of his spirit. EW Bullinger pointed out in his book Numbers in Scripture that the bible mentioned 8 miracles done by Elijah and 15 miracles done by Elisha while he was alive. But when he died and buried there was a corpse about to be buried close to his burial site. But when they heard that their neighbors the Moabites were about to invade they dropped the corpse and fled. The corpse touched Elisha's dead body and was resurrected. So you can say that God fulfills his promises even over your dead body.

Here's an old website, an online version of EW Bullinger's Numbers in Scripture. It defines the numbers. Although I find that the meaning of numbers are studied out to be more complex it still an interesting read:
http://philologos.org/__eb-nis/default.htm

For example we've learned that the number 40 is known as the number of testing. Jesus was 40 day in the wilderness (Matthew 4 and Luke 4). Or Israel was in the wilderness for 40 years in Numbers because when they spied for 40 days the land of Canaan most of them had no confidence in God saying that there were giants whom they can't fight against. Only Joshua and Caleb had faith in God. So 40 years, each day for a year they stayed in the wilderness as a punishment. So Jesus was in Israel's shoes, spending 40 days in the wilderness and quoted 3 passages from Deuteronomy resisting the Devil in the 3 areas: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. So Jesus succeeded where Israel failed. So in Jesus you'll find a perfect Israel (He shall reign with God).

But coming back to 40, 40 belongs to Spoke 18 (18^2), 2nd cycle since 18+22=40. So in the 18th book we find Righteous Job who was tested.

THE MIRACLES OF ELIJAH (http://philologos.org/__eb-nis/eight.htm)

were eight in number, marking the Divine character of his mission:

1. The shutting up of heaven, 1 Kings 17:1; James 5:17; Luke 4:25.
2. Multiplying the widow's meal, 2 Kings 17:14-16.
3. Raising the widow's son, verses 17-23.
4. Causing fire to come down from heaven, 1 Kings 18:37, 38.
5. Causing rain to come down from heaven, verses 41-45.
6. Causing fire to come down from heaven, 2 Kings 1:10.
7. The same, verse 12.
8. Dividing the Jordan, 2 Kings 2:8.

THE MIRACLES OF ELISHA

were double in number, viz. sixteen, for his request was, "Let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me," 2 Kings 2:9:

1. Dividing the Jordan, 2 Kings 2:14.
2. Healing the waters, verse 21.
3. Cursing the young men,* verse 24.
4. Procuring water for the three kings, 2 Kings 3:16-20.
5. Multiplying the widow's oil, 2 Kings 4:1-7.
6. Raising the widow's son, 4:37.
7. Healing the deadly pottage, verse 38.
8. Feeding the hundred men, verses 42-44.
9. The healing of Naaman, 2 Kings 5:1-19.
10. The smiting of Gehazi, verses 20-27.
11. Causing the iron to swim, 2 Kings 6:1-7.
12. Opening the eyes of his servant, verse 17.
13. Smiting the Syrian army with blindness, verse 18.
14. Restoring their sight, verse 20.
15. Arresting the king's messenger, verses 30-33.
16. A dead man raised by touching his bones, 2 Kings 13:20, 21.
This is what he says. But as I look at it I recall there were many other things which are considered miraculous such as Elijah ascending to heaven in fiery chariots. Or Elijah traveling faster than Ahab in his chariot in 1Kings 21. Elijah meets God on mount Sinai.

Elijah thinks he's the only prophet left in 1Kings 19. But in 1Kings 22 the narrator mentions of another prophet Michaiah which was probably one of the 7000 preserved by God. Also we learn that Obadiah the captain hid these prophets in caves. So I find many miraculous things in Elijah's and Elisha's lives.
