I own one of his devotionals, but haven't read it for years. But when I did read it, I thought he had some good insights.
Why do you ask?

I see his writings as being extremely relevant for growth in our Christian walk. Since this thread addresses book reviews I wondered how many paid attention to Oswald Chambers.
I immediately took to his writings in my early walk. Then I shied away from them as they targeted areas in my life that I wasn't ready to give up. Now I can again see the truth and take it to heart.

Thanks for the testimony. I think I'll use his daily devotional for a while and see how God speaks to me through it.

"I see his writings as being extremely relevant for growth in our Christian walk." - That comment is RIGHT ON!
I have to chime in about Oswald Chambers (OC) because a decade ago I got enamored by OC. I was so emamored, in fact, that I found and read every book of his teachings. As such I could write at length about OC, but I don't have the time and most people reading or listening would likely get bored by my ramblings.
But I have to say something, and this quote is a great springboard for a few brief words of mine about OC...
I have found his writing to be very relevant and they did boost my spiritual growth for a period of a half dozen years. From out of all that I can tell you this:
The devotional "My Utmost..." is a blessed place to start. That book is truly anointed.
Luke 11:13 was OC's life verse. Why? He lived that verse out. How? Read on...
I just discovered some of OC's diaries. They tell that he prayed every day for the gift of The Holy Spirit.
The best single book by OC is "Psychology of Redemption (PR)". But it is very hard to find. Don't look for PR.
Look instead for the same book rereleased under the title, "Bringing Sons into Glory / Making All Things New".
Why is PR or BSG/MAN so special? It was one of the first books OC wrote, but that's not why. The secret is that PR grew directly out of OC's personal study of Romans.
But the book BSG/MAN is more than a study of Romans. OC used Romans as a lens through which to view both the gospels and the epistles. Reading PR or BSG/MAN then is a soul-treat of getting to know Jesus in a deep, fresh way.
Reading most anything from OC can turn the eyes of your heart upon Jesus. But those books are the best morsels from him.
