Matthew 10:1He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil[a] spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.
2These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; 3Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 4Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
5These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: "Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. 6Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. 7As you go, preach this message: 'The kingdom of heaven is near.' 8Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy,[b]drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. 9Do not take along any gold or silver or copper in your belts; 10take no bag for the journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or a staff; for the worker is worth his keep.
Just to share and meditate on the above verses.
1) The apostle s were given the powers to drive out evil spirits, heal diseases, raise the dead and they must have authority from Jesus to do so
2) The apostles were to go to the lost sheep of Israel and they were not allowed to go to the Gentiles and the Samaritans
3) The apostles were to preach the message, "the kingdom of heaven is near" meaning ?Christ's kingdom (Christianity/Church) is near?
4) freely you have received , freely give meaning either freely you have received the powers to heal, cast out demons and raise the seal, do it without charge or freely you have receive the love and powers from God, give the love and works from God free to the lost sheep of Israel
5) The apostles are not to take any valuables or bag or extra tunic, sandals and staff so that they will not be tempted to receive gifts and money for their services and also not to slow down their journey.
Freely receive, freely give; is Jesus teaching and preparing the apostles what they would expect in the kingdom of heaven whereby such is the way of life in which you receive freely from God and from others, you are to give your services freely to others? As we understand in the kingdom of heaven, no money is used at all, all services are free...it's a utopian society...free housing, free food, free transport, free travel, no tax, no monetary crimes, no profiteering, no inflation etc.
