The book of Zechariah and the book Revelation seems to be amazingly connected and also with the book of Daniel. I believed that John was inspired to write the book of Revelation with reference from the book of Zechariah and the book of Daniel. From an internet website of the same title:

Almost every chapter of Zechariah is alluded to by John in the book of Revelation:

1) Zech 1: Horsemen // The four horsemen of Revelation 6.

2) Zech 2: The man with a measuring line // Rev 11:1-2 John to told to measure the holy city and the courts.

3) Zech 3: The angel of the Lord / Satan accusing Joshua // Satan accuser of the brethren (Rev 12); The war in heaven (Rev 12).

4) The stone with seven eyes (Zech 3): The Lamb with seven horns and seven eyes (Rev 5)

5) Zech 4: The two olive trees // Rev 11:3 The two witnesses

6) Zech 4: The Golden Lampstand // Rev 1: The seven lampstands = the seven churches

7) Zech 5: The scroll written on both sides // Rev 10: The angel with the little scroll

8) Zech 5: Woman = wickedness // Rev 17: Woman = wickedness

9) Zech 6: Four chariots / horses // Rev’s four horsemen

10) Zech 6: The counsel shall be between them // Rev 11 = two witnesses together in all things.

11) Zech 8: God’s jealousy towards Jerusalem // Rev 20: God’s fire on the enemies of Jerusalem

12) Zech 9: The King riding on a colt // Rev 19: The rider on a white horse – the king of kings

13) Zech 12, 14: The nations gather to fight Jerusalem // Rev 11:2 The nations trample on Jerusalem; nations gathered to fight the camp of the saints and the beloved city (Rev 20).

14) Zech 13, 14: The fountain; living waters flowing from Jerusalem // Rev 22: The river of living waters flowing from the throne

Many Blessings.

Hey there Cheow!

Excellent thread. :thumb:

It shows the profound integration of all the books of the Bible, particularly Revelation which is like the "Capstone" to the entire book.

Zechariah is particularly interesting because of the many prophecies it contains that were fulfilled in Christ. For example:

Prophecy: Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

Fulfillment: Matthew 21:5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass. 6 And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them, 7 And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.

===================================

Prophecy: Zechariah 11:12 And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver.

Fulfillment: Matthew 26:15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.

===================================

Prophecy: Zechariah 12:10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

Fulfillment: John 19:36-37 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken. 37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

===================================

Prophecy: Zechariah 13:7 Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.

Fulfillment: Matthew 26:31 Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

===================================

And there are probably more. It will be fun to search them out.

Thanks for the great topic!

Zechariah is a book of deep symbolism close to the end of the OT just like Revelation is a book of deep symbolism in the end of the NT.

Here's an often overlooked link:

Zec 12:10 And they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.
Zec 12:11 In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon.
Zec 12:12 And the land shall mourn, every family apart.

Rev 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

That is a profound insight Victor! For years I've had a nagging sense that there was a "something more" to the link between Rev 1:7 and Zech 12:10 than merely "every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him." I had never noticed that Rev 1:7 was also linked to the verses that immediately followed Zech 12:10. You have finally answered my longtime lingering question. Thanks!

We discussed a little about that "something more" at The Meaning of Phule (Tribe) in the NT (http://www.biblewheel.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1276). The emphasis about this "mourning" by the "tribes" of Israel was placed in primarily in the context of Matthew 24, which textually speaks of the same things.

Ah yes. I should have remembered that. You're making me feel old my friend!

:prophet:

But it's good to have that link for others, since the meaning of the "tribes of the land" is constantly misunderstood.

Well, we can't remember everything we've covered! The Bible is a whole Universe in the palm of your hand!

That's one of my favorite descriptions. I always think of the Bible when I read Blake's poem:

To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.
