As I was reading Matthew chapter 2:2, I noticed a unique link to Psalm 2:2 that I had never noticed before. Psalm 2:2 speaks of the kings of the earth who set themselves up against God’s anointed, and the rulers who take counsel together against Him…..
.
.
Psalm 2:2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed (mashiyach),...
.
.

….and in Matt.2:2 the Magi who have traveled from the east following the star, come to King Herod (a king of the earth) in Jerusalem and inquired of him where the King of the Jews whose star they have followed is. King Herod who considered himself to be king of the Jews was deeply troubled, so he gathered together all the chief priests and scribes (rulers of the Jews) to find Christ, and he set out to kill God’s anointed.
.
.
Matt. 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. 3) When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4) And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ (Christos) should be born.

Great link! I wouldn't say that the second verse of one chapter is so close to the other one, but that the theme of Psalm 2 coheres with the theme of Matthew 2, and that the first verses of each track in a number of points.

Check this one out:

Psa 2:6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

Mat 2:6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
Both speak speak of God's King/Governor being set in the land of Judah.

Psalm 2 (http://www.biblewheel.com/InnerWheels/Psalms/Psalm02_Exodus.asp) and Mathew 2 (http://www.biblewheel.com/InnerWheels/Matthew/Mat02.asp) relate to Letter 2 of the Alphabet - Bet, and the Bet KeyWord Ben - Son. Both chapters speak of the Son of God.
