View Full Version : Chinese words curiosity of the cross
Hi,
There are some Chinese words that seems to connect to the cross. Not sure if it's God's designs or just co-incidences.
http://www.chinese-symbols.com/chinese-symbols/t/ten.gif
http://www.chinese-word.com/data/0474.html
The character means ten. Ten is a perfect Number to the Chinese. Looks like a Cross. God is perfect.

http://www.chinese-word.com/data/0896.html
The character means a learned man; a person with respect. Looks like a Cross standing on 2 feet/supports on the ground. Also looks like a man on his two feet with arms open wide as a gesture of welcome.

Amazing! see how God confused the languages and the Chinese language yet give some pictorial clues of the perfect, respected, learned man hung on the wooden cross cut from a tree and planted onto the ground.
Many Blessings to you.
Hi,
I came across an interesting website that suggests many Chinese words are derived from Biblical events such as the Flood, Sin, God, Sacrifice, Noah's Ark, Satan, Temptation, Forbidden Fruit etc. Really Incredible, which brought us thinking if it's God designs or co-incidences.
I am not a Chinese chauvinist but considering Chinese as one of the oldest language in the world, I believe many of the biblical events especially those of Creation and the Flood are recorded and embeded in Chinese words and characters which comes in pictograms and ideograms. Even when God confused the one single language in the world, some remnants and evidences of that one single world language remains. Amazing stuff and easy to understand even to those who do not understand Chinese:

I like that! Let me share some insights on that:
Hi,
There are some Chinese words that seems to connect to the cross. Not sure if it's God's designs or just co-incidences.
http://www.chinese-symbols.com/chinese-symbols/t/ten.gif
http://www.chinese-word.com/data/0474.html
The character means ten. Ten is a perfect Number to the Chinese. Looks like a Cross. God is perfect.
This Chinese association of the number 10 with the image of the cross may have a real and unpredictable link with the Christian message of the Cross. Where in Scripture does the cross appear for the first time? Matthew 10! I got that in my notes years ago:
Mat 10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
This is reinforced by the fact that "his cross" appears 10 times in Scripture!
The Number 10 in the Bible symbolizes Power, because the 10th Letter is Yod, Hand, which denotes power and ability to do things. And the Cross is the Power of God!
1Co 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
"Cross" appears 28 times in Scripture and 28 is the numerical value of Power (Koach) and the ordinal value of Tav (Mark, Cross).
Power = 28 (http://www.biblewheel.com/GR/GR_28.asp) = Tav (Cross)
It is such a paradox! In such a weak image of a man on a Cross we behold the perfection of God's Work! We have the identity:
The Power of God = 1967 (http://www.biblewheel.com/GR/GR_1967.asp) = 7 (Perfection) x 281 (Weakness)
Note that "Weakness" is 281 which is 28 x 10 plus the unit.
That link is additionally reinforeced by the first appearance of "cross" in Mark. It is in Mark 10!
Mar 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
Both Matthew 10 and Mark 10 express the practical implications of the Cross in our lives. Christ explains to the rich young man that taking up the Cross signifies renouncing the material things, which is the polar opposite of covetousness, expressly prohibited in the 10th Commandment (Thou shall not covet)!
One may wonder why the Number 10 is the one linked with the Cross and not the Number 4, which would be more obvious and natural. Well, in Chinese the word "four" sounds like "death" and so the foundation seems to be first established between the Number 4 and Death. Then the Cross is linked to the Number 10. Ancient mystics, mathematicians and philosophers recognized a link between the numbers 4 and 10 because 10 was the completion (perfection) of the material world expressed by the numbers 1 (the point), 2 (the line), 3 (the 2D space) and 4 (the 3D space). We have:
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10
This was called the tetraktys, the perfect triangle of side 4. The denary system of numeration seems to be inspired on this elevated sense attached to the Number 10: the perfection of the material world (which was also symbolized by the four elements).
The Cross event reconciled the world to the Lord. It was the ultimate material manifestation of the Power of God in time and space.

The character means earth or soil. Looks like a Cross planted on the ground. God planted on earth.
That's very nice! That seems to link with the above. The cursed ground transformed by the Cross.

The character means a learned man; a person with respect. Looks like a Cross standing on 2 feet/supports on the ground. Also looks like a man on his two feet with arms open wide as a gesture of welcome.
A student in the Hebrew world learned at the feet of his teacher.
Act 22:3 I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.
The Chinese man should learn at the feet of the Cross!

And the Cross itself was describe as a Tree in the Bible.
Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
The Cross is the Tree of Life!

Cheow and Victor;
A big double "high Five" to you both! (5 x 2 = 10......I get it.....)
That is very rich indeed.
Some added tidbits......stauros (noun, #4716)....appears in 10 books of NT...........10 of the 28 times appear in Paul's letters.

Hi gregory,
Etymologically, the word is "fu" which stands for father is a hand carrying an axe suggesting a hunter or a protector. Any relation to biblical event?

I have a book discussing this topic called "The Discovery of Genesis." I don't know if that is where I learned the connection between the Chinese characters for Word and Son, but I have been aware of it for many years and so was quickly able to find these images on the site:
http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/1073.jpg
a SON; seed; a person; an egg (link (http://www.chinese-word.com/data/1073.html))
http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/1078.jpg
a WORD, a character (link (http://www.chinese-word.com/data/1078.html))
I don't know what the bar above the "son" means. I'll check into it tomorrow. This seems pretty significant given that the SON of God is called the WORD of God.
This could prove to be a very interesting thread, especially since we have so many online resources to work with now.
Richard
Hi Richard,
You don't need to check, the bar above the "son" is heaven. Therefore, the WORD is the son of heaven or the son of heaven is the WORD.
Many blessings.

I would like to show another curiosity, "Come":
http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/0149.jpg
Can you see a cross with a big man hung on the cross and 2 small men, one on each side of the big man? The 2 small men seems to be also hung on the cross next to the big man.
Reminds me of Christ hung on the cross with 2 condemned criminals hung on the cross on each side.
The character means "Come" (Come with the Lord to heaven).
Another interpretation of the character "Come" is that the 2 men were Adam and Eve hiding in a tree ashamed of their nakedness. And God asked them to "Come out". Can you see it?

I just listened to the pronunciation of the Number Ten in Chinese:
http://www.chinese-word.com/data/0474.html
It is pronounced "shyr". This is very close to the Hebrew word for ten which is "eser" spelt Ayin Shin Resh.
עשר `eser {eh'ser} masc. of term עשרה `asarah {as-aw-raw'} from 06237; TWOT - 1711a; n m/f AV - ten
Curiouser and curiouser!
But I did not notice any correlations with the other digits.

I had noticed that too! It is just a lot of information to gather at once. Ten in Hebrew and Chinese share a common S-R root. That' remarkable.
And you have taught that the words Ten and Riches are very similar in Hebrew. Eser and Asher - only the vocalization changes, the letters are the same. It is a pun. This can be an additional link to the Cross and its opposition with the search for riches (http://www.biblewheel.com/WHeel/Spokes/Yod_Timothy.asp).
Great insight Victor and Richard! :thumb:
BTW, the Chinese view 10 as a perfection number. It is often used literally as what we use as 100%, 10 points being as the excellent or optimal instead of 100.
Hebrew and Chinese are ancient languages and therefore some of the remnants or ideas of the single world language may still exist., I won't be surprised if Eqyptian hieroglyphics would produce some evidences of Biblical events or remnants of the single world language. Any idea, anyone?
Many Bleesings to you both.
Hi,
Another curiosity of the Chinese for 666
The Chinese character for 6 is :
http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/0313.jpg
Does it looks like a man with outstretched arm like a welcoming gesture? A deceiving welcoming gesture?
666 in Chinese will look like this:
http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/0313.jpghttp://www.chinese-word.com/standard/0313.jpghttp://www.chinese-word.com/standard/0313.jpg
Does it refers to the 1st Beast, 2nd Beast and the False Prophet?...three deceiving welcoming gestures?
Many Blesssings to all.
Victor

Hey, can we break down the character for 6 in other words/symbols?
The ideogram that you post does absolutely remind of an image of a man! It doesn't mean that it has a "decieving welcome gesture". It may be a negative connotation we can give to it. But six simply means "man". It can be either good or bad.
HI,
Another Chinese word curiosity is the word Cross. The Chinese word comes in 3 characters which literally mean "the '10" word frame"
http://www.chinese-word.com/data/0474-6.html
http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/0474.jpg
Meaning "ten" but looks like a cross
http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/1078.jpg
Meaning "Word" but looks like the Son of Heaven
http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/2385.jpg
Meaning "Frame". Note also there is a cross in this character.
Therefore, the Cross to me means "Ten + the Son of Heaven + Frame" = "Perfection + The Word of the Son of Heaven + The Frame"
Many Blessings to all.

There are some pictures missing in both yours (Cheow) and Richard's posts.
Thanks to RAM for his recommendation on the book, The Discovery of Genesis. I find the book quite fascinating and it does provide many awesome convincing explanations of Chinese words and its relation to the events in Genesis. The Chinese language was believed to be invented during the times of Peleg, just before the world was divided and the one world language confused. And as Chinese words are mainly pictorial ideograms, it may thus provide a "picture" of what happened during many events of Genesis before the one world language were confused and the people dispersed. For those interested to discover and read more about Chinese words and its relation to events in Genesis, here is the link to the book:

Happy Reading and Many Blessings to all.
Another Chinese word curiosity just came into my mind...two shall become one. The Chinese word is "erh" meaning two and another word is "ren" meaning man:
Matthew 19:4 “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’[a] 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? 6 [B]So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
Chinese word for Two i.e "erh" (represented by 2 sticks):
http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/0049.jpg
Chinese word for Man i.e. "ren" (represented by someone standing/walking on 2 legs):
http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/0071.jpg
Join the Chinese word for Two i.e. joining the 2 sticks together raising them up to meet at a sharp point and you have Man!
http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/0049.jpg = http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/0071.jpg
Literally, the two Chinese words ("erh" and "ren") combined means two man. Amazing! Two shall become one man i.e. 2 sticks repesenting 2 persons joined up to become a man. Funny, Chinese wife used to call her husband as "My Male Man", and Chinese husband used to call his wife as "My Female Man". Once married, Chinese wife will on take their husband's surname and name such as Mrs Wong; same with westerners such as Mrs Taylor etc.
Many Blessings.
Another Chinese word curiosity is Three (pronounced as "san")which is represented by 3 sticks and Big (pronounced as "tar"). Arrange the 3 sticks "san" together and it becomes Chinese word for Big ("tar"). Add the 2 words together and it means the 3 Big Ones ("san tar")....Trinity?:
Three ("san")
http://www.chinese-word.com/data/0005.html
Big ("tar") denoting a man with legs and arms widespread gesturing the meaning of big/large.
http://www.chinese-word.com/data/0916.html
http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/0005.jpg http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/0916.jpg = "san tar" meaning Three Big Ones = ? Trinity.
Chinese three ("san") can also be transformed into a Chinese word earth "tu" or a high learned ranking officer ("tze") which looks like a cross implanted on a ground by arranging the 3 sticks:
http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/0805.jpg = earth
http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/0896.jpg = respectful high ranking learned officer = ? Christ.
Many Blessings.
Another Chinese word curiosity related to 3 or Trinity is work or worker pronounced as "kong". By arranging the three represented by the ideogram of 3 sticks, it becomes work or worker:
"kong"
http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/1293.jpg
Therefore Trinity, the three in one, can be also expressed as the 3 big works or 3 Big workers in one (Chinese character of "kong"):
http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/0005.jpg http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/0916.jpg http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/1293.jpg = meaning 3 Big workers/works.

The same 2 sticks representing Number 2 in Chinese can be transpose into Chinese number ten which symbolize perfection just like the biblical number 10. This suggests that the two (Adam and Eve) became one perfect couple:
Chinese word for Two i.e "erh" (represented by 2 sticks):
http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/0049.jpg
Chinese number ten (2 sticks representing number 2 transformed into a Chinese number ten which looks like a cross) symbolizing perfection:
Chinese word for ten i.e. "sze":
http://www.chinese-word.com/standard/0474.jpg
The perfect couple Adam and Eve is analogous to another perfect couple Jesus, the Bridegroom and the Church the Bride represented by the Chinese number ten whch stands for perfection in the Bible and in Chinese numerology. Amazingly, the Chinese ten looks like a cross.
Many Blessings.

In every language I think there are influences that are derived form the biblical account in one way or another, the story of Noah is a good example, in the Bible in many details and also with dates, in other languages not in detail. The 'tower of babel' story has the source why on the plane of our speaking it is a mingling of light and darkness in our daily life, just as we have a mingling of light and darkness in our daily life that we can see, we call that call evening and morning. The further away from the equator, mediator of this world, the more the light or the darkness has influence on us (at several parts of the year).

Agree with you that every language have some connections with biblical account, why?... because there was once a single language! It was from this single language that all languages were derived and as such there are some familiarization in its meaning, ideolgies, writings and pronunciations and even cultures. Almost every culture have some stories on the creation and about God and the Great Flood although there are some variations in the accounts. Chinese same as Hebrew, Greek, Arabic, Tamil are ancient languages that are at least 3,000 to 4,000 years old that are still in use today and may have recorded some events that happened during those times in Genesis which were passed on through the generations by word of mouth.
As for the mingling of light and darkness, whether you are in the equator or at the poles, the amount of daylight and night are the same in a year. At the equator, you get almost equal 12 hours day and 12 hours night and at the poles you get 6 months day and 6 months night. Therefore, the Bible said it right that God is fair to both the evil and the good i.e. the light and the darkness in this world.
Matthew 5:44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?
many Blessings.

That's what I meant to say: The balance every day of the year is the best at the mediator. I like to call it the mediator here :) The balance in our every day life is the best over there.
As we enter the night in this world, we enter another awareness in this world, that's what comes along with the darkness. We start to sleep and dream. We are horizontal and parallel to the earth and dream of things, maybe great things, personal dreams. And when the light of the day comes, that's good, we automatically wake up and the dream is gone. Some may sing that their whole life is a dream but that's not what it is of course.
When we wake up we make the choice to move on in a state of conscious that fits with the day world.
An old chinese saying goes like this: If you don't make the choice the choice will make you.
Matthew 5:45
Good and evil are joined together in the word seed, sera. Ra means evil, seed is good. Here we're back to basic (language) again. We alle live because of seed.
This info is also like throwing a light out of His Scripture's sun ("Your word is like a lamp (to my feet)") causing to rise on the evil and good, produced by seed. Just like the many more hebrew info that rises over the evil and good. His Word also sends rain on the righteous and unrighteous and rain has to do with water, time, from above for fertility. For all is a time under the heavens.
Another curious word is ancient or old or past which could also means dead. The Chinese character of the word "koo" looks like a Christian tomb with the cross on top and the epitaph stone below. Original meaning is "ten mouths" meaning that anything that is spoken through ten mouths is considered as old (message). If a Chinese say "a thousand old", he means this person is already dead.
Chinese word for Acient, Past, Old, Dead:

Does it looks like a Christian tomb?...or does it means a cross with a mouth below suggesting the old or ancient sayings of the cross/crucifixion that was passed by mouth through the generations?
Many Blessings.
