The Hand

• AV Lamentations 1:10 The adversary hath spread out his hand upon all her pleasant things: for she hath seen that the heathen entered into her sanctuary, whom thou didst command that they should not enter into thy congregation.
• AV Lamentations 4:10 The hands of the pitiful women have sodden their own children: they were their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people.
• AV Proverbs 31:19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
• AV Psalm 119:73 Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.

The name of the tenth letter, יוד (yod), comes from the Hebrew word for a hand, יד (yad). This connection is extremely well established in the Alphabetic Verses where yad (hand) appears four times in the verses corresponding to Yod, shown above. This meaning manifests very clearly In 1 Timothy on Spoke 10 (cf. Holy Hands) and in various Inner Cycles such as Psalm 10.

Action

The Tenth Letter, Yod, is a symbol of both action and personal possession. Its sense as Action mainfests in these Alphabetic Verses:

• AV Lamentations 3:28 He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne it upon him.
• AV Lamentations 3:29 He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope.
• AV Lamentations 3:30 He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach.
• AV Psalm 25:9 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.
• AV Psalm 111:5 He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.
• AV Psalm 112:5b he will guide his affairs with discretion.

All of these verses begin with a verbal root like sit, put. or guide prefixed with a Yod which signifies the third person qal imperfect, indicating an ongoing action past or future. In simple English, the Yod prefix indicates the idea of he will be or he is or he was doing X. In short, this grammatical function reveals Yod as the Letter of Action. Hence, the divine structure of Scripture seen in the Ten Commandments, designed to show proper action. This coheres, of course, with the use of the Latin root man (hand) in such words as manipulate. This should be compared with the meaning of the Yod Suffix, which indicates the first person possessive "mine".

Let there be praise!

• AV Psalm 119:80 Let [yahi] my heart be sound in thy statutes; that I be not ashamed.
• AV Psalm 145:10 All thy works shall praise thee [yadah], O LORD; and thy saints shall bless thee.

When God said "Let there be light" in Genesis 1, He used the Yod KeyWord יהי (Yahi), which He also placed in the last Yod verse of the great Alphabetic Psalm 119. And this light that He created then, that now contained in His Everlasting Word (cf. GR 232), has given all His works, of which we all are, (for let us never forget that we are mere creatures made by the Creator ), reason to praise Him forever. The word translated as "praise" is ידה (Yadah, S# G3034, from the idea of lifting your hands in praise (see Holy Hands). This is the root of the Name Judah, as it is written:

And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.

Genesis 29:35

This is yet another example of the Bible functioning as its own etymological dictionary. Praise God for the glorious wisdom He has given us in His Holy Word!
